Review of A Quiet Place (2018) by Maria D — 24 Apr 2018
I seriously cannot understand all the praise lavished on this derivative crap. The plot twist and various plot milestones are telegraphed in the first 20-30 minutes of the film, then its just a chain of contrivance and cliché which quite frankly insults the audiences' intelligence.
The sound design works for the slow build of the first two thirds of the film but you still have to put up with the characters being beyond stupid, this is all whilst being asked to believe this family of pending Darwin Awards did all this really clever prep prior to the films time line.
Then the remaining third of the film (about 30 mins) drags its feet like I've never seen in any film finale; Just end already I've already accepted that this waste of space is time I'll never get back - do you have to make it so painful in the process; This pacing just makes you even more acutely aware of how much you want the film to be over already, the only good things in this is Emily Blunts' and the deaf girl's performances - literally there is nothing else to see here of any import.
The amount of suspension of disbelief this film asks of you is far beyond what the quality of writing deserves. The hype around this can only be explained in my eyes as extreme group think, so if you wanna be a sheep and blindly like something because hollywood really, really, wants you too, go ahead kill your critical thinking skills.
... Its the only way this film could ever be enjoyed.
