Review of A Quiet Place (2018) by Lis E — 28 Apr 2018
On paper, A Quiet Place might seem like a risk--a film that touts the premise that "If they hear you, they hunt you"? Could 90 minutes of a film with incredibly minimal dialogue be worth it? I'm so glad I took the leap.
In a film that is, in large part, acted through emotion, eye contact, and body language, with a choice few words sprinkled in here and there, the actors are able to truly shine--and the corresponding build-up of an audience collectively holding their breath adds to the suspense and the uncertainty that rises from moment to moment.
However, at its core, this is a film about what you're willing to do for your family. It's a love letter to anyone who's had to dig into the deepest part of themselves to take care of those they love the most.
John Krasinski shines, Emily Blunt is superior, but most of all, the young actors playing their children truly show incredible range. See A Quiet Place in a full theater--that shared experience is something I won't soon forget.
