Review of A Quiet Place (2018) by Daniel P — 24 May 2018
A powerhouse tour de force in highly concentrated anxiety & suspense.
Is it the best horror film of the year? It is not. Is it the second best or is it so creatively entertainingly that such comparisons or considerations are of no use when you sit down and see the opening scene pull you into its graveyard-acoustics atmosphere, where you are focused with pure awe until the thoroughly badass (yet also sickeningly grim like John Carpenter's, "The Thing") final scene - speaking of which I must mention has such an inestimable feeling of terror and urgency that you will be reeling for days.
AND OH MY GOD THAT BATHTUB SCENE IS AS INSTANTLY ICONIC AS PSYCHO'S STABBY SHOWER SHRILL!
