Review of A Quiet Place (2018) by Compi24 — 09 Apr 2018
It's nothing particularly revelatory or game-changing, but John Krasinski's "A Quiet Place" is at least certainly good, with the performances, atmosphere, and logic all representing the highest performing elements here (three things post-modern horror films have lacked especially as of late).
I just wasn't particularly wowed by anything else here though. The premise, while executed well here, is nothing particularly novel (we've seen similar premises in films like "Don't Breathe" and "Hush").
And though the filmmaking here is undoubtedly effective, some of the usual horror movie pitfalls -- like an over-reliance on jump scares, for instance -- make an appearance. Again, I much enjoyed the film overall.
It just didn't reinvent the wheel for me.
