Review of A Quiet Place (2018) by Kenmei — 28 Jul 2018
Amazing sound direction really drives home this movie as one of the best of the year. The suspense that is built just by use of silence alone is amazingly well done. And Kraskinski does a great job in his first real directing role.
The story is where things start to fall apart here as literally nothing is explained about the world and why things are happening. Also the big "reveal" at the end of the movie losses alot of its impact for anyone who's ever read a Venom comic or saw the old Spiderman cartoon show.
Alot of what kept me interested in watching the movie was the great sound direction and the superb acting by Kraskinski and his wife, Emily Blunt. Even if there are only about a paragraphs worth of lines spoken in the movie, they do alot to keep the viewer emotionally invested.
I just wish the story wasn't as dull as it was and had a little bit more content to it. I'd still recommend the movie anyone who is interested in a suspenseful thriller but I don't think it lived up to the lofty reviews that everyone seems to spout when they talk about this.
