Review of A Quiet Place (2018) by Leonardo S — 02 Aug 2018
John Krasinski delivers a phenomenal and suspenseful movie, where the danger is real and the consequences of the characters' mistakes feel soul-crushing, while also making a strong reflection on the importance of the tradicional family.
The "alien monster" is not as original as it could be, but the fact that the movie doesn't try to explain the unexplainable is a positive. Besides, Krasinski makes a good job of creating a creature that feels alien, terrifying, real and most importantly dangerous, at the same time. The early show of the monster's efficiency succeds in making the audience know that the family is dealing with a formidable foe.
The performances are good, specially Emily Blunt's, specifically during the scenes of the character's labor. Krasinski is very solid as well, even though his character doesn't need to show as much emotion as Blunt's. The kids are good enough - again, their roles don't require a lot more effort.
Overall, a very good movie (no matter the genre it is inserted in) with themes that will definitely resonate with the majority of the audience and satisfy horror buffs. So far, it's the best horror movie of the year.
