Review of A Quiet Place (2016) by Becki G — 08 May 2018
I'm so shocked by the positive ratings this movie has received. So shocked that I am compelled to write my first review. Let me start by saying that this movie took a concept we have seen in some places before (black mirror, anyone?) And chose to build a boring, nonsensical story around it.
Weve seen characters require silence or distract noise-detecting monsters in better ways, from Jurassic park to the walking Dead and the big "solution" ending is infuriatingly obvious. This films derivative concepts and mediocre acting (save Millicent Simmonds who was actually good) do little to make up for the enormous plot holes and monster rules that seem to be in constant flux.
Even the attempted tension and jump scares fell flat, we left the theater laughing and disappointed.
