Review of A Quiet Passion (2016) by G David S — 23 Jun 2017
Some parts of this film are admirable, but not nearly enough. Many scenes seem to be a very poorly executed condensation of a more drawn out event, making the dialogue and pacing unbelievable - probably not the outcome one would hope for a historical biopic.
There are some odd choices and placements as well that just feel out of place or unnecessary for a period piece (eccentric music, drawn out shots). I was so repulsed by the acting of the younger-aged Emily that I might have left the theater had the film remained in that phase of life.
There is something so revolting about period pieces in which a modern dialect or way of speech is presented. This film missed the mark of greatness without a doubt.
