Review of A Private War (2018) by Dennis H — 22 Dec 2018
My wife and I went to see this a week ago - during the Christmas season. I had been wanting to see this movie but was willing to see a happier movie in the spirit of Christmas. This movie was not in joyous spirit of Christmas.
It was however, a compelling story. IMDB provides a great description of Marie Colvin as "One of the most celebrated war correspondents of our time, Marie Colvin is an utterly fearless and rebellious spirit, driven to the frontline of conflicts across the globe to give voice to the voiceless.
" Rosamund Pike's portrayal of Colvin was so realistic. Pike even resembles Colvin. I am rather surprised at the audience score for this movie as it is a well produced and directed movie. I wonder if this movie made people doubters as this type of news being "Fake News".
This type of news is the real news. Colvin's final broadcast was of the situation in current day Syria. she was compelled to broadcast to expose Assad's lies about no civilians being injured. The entire movie was about Colvin covering news in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Libya.
The movie was historical without being graphic war scenes. Also, it showed Colvin's somewhat spicy lifestyle with several men lover and drinking. This is a definite must see movie.
