Review of A Prairie Home Companion (2006) by Eleonora E — 30 Sep 2008
I had high hopes for this film b/c I like the radio show so much. I just think Keillor had perhaps too much influence on the script. The pacing was plodding--unnecessarily so. The acting and the singing were fine, but the plot was just contrived and boring.
An angel of death in a white trench coat? Guy Noir was nicely done, but then again, Kevin Kline is good at just about anything and the character IS, after all, a character. Lily Tomlin can't sing, but Meryl Streep was surprisingly good.
I was completely bored by Lindsay Lohan's character too. But the show really went to Woody Harrelson and Kevin Kline. So, the movie was a mixed bag for me. Not awful, but I'd rather have seen something else.
