Review of A Prairie Home Companion (2006) by Lucy — 26 Jun 2006
What a crushing, soul-killing bore this movie is. It's obsessed with death, with one character dying and another playing an angel of death. That's bad enough, but trying to squeeze laughs out of a suicidal teenager is just over the line.
I kept hoping it would get better. With Streep, Tomlin, Harrelson, OReilly, and other luminaries in it, you would expect that is was at least worth seeing. But NOOOooo. I gave it 2 points fo Harrelson and Oreilly's naughty songs.
And I've never seen Streep do such a bad job with a role. She's all fluttery sweetness and light, with quirky mannerisms to match. Save your money, your time and your dignity. Go see something else.
