Review of A Place in the Sun (1951) by David K — 06 Aug 2007
I saw this movie for the first time on TCM, August 2007. Watch this movie and see amazing acting from Monty Clift and Elizabeth Taylor (breathtakingly beautiful from the moment she walks into the room where Monty is shooting pool).
I was especially drawn into Monty's character of George Eastman, who has been living an ordinary life that he describes as one in which "there's nothing really to tell." But a few twists and turns here and there, and George tastes the extraordinary, especially in the beautiful Elizabeth Taylor.
Besides the amazing acting, the movie is nicely shot, the music score is moving (I especially like how it keeps creeping up and leaving), there are nice fade-ins and fade-outs. In all, this movie is an emotional experience that evokes serious empathy for the characters on screen and perhaps you'll find yourself in Monty's shoes one day.
