Review of A Perfect World (1993) by Lee B — 02 Dec 2008
This is a great movie about a road trip shared by a young boy and an escaped convict. The casting is spot on as the actors bring out ambitious qualities, as in laura dern's character railing against Eastwood's chauvinism; and human goodness, as in costner who we root for despite the fact that he's a criminal.
This is a tribute to the screenplay and the direction. My favourite part is when the kid asks if costner is going to marry the waitress, he says " no" and the kid says," but you kissed her on the ass".
The part where he beats the farm worker for hitting his son is powerful, and that bluegrass song that he plays makes it poignant.
