Review of A Perfect World (1993) by Nathan A — 05 Oct 2010

What we have here is one the most under-appreciated films of 90's, well actually of all-time. I saw A Perfect World back in the summer of 97", it was one the best movies with Kevin Costner I'd ever seen. I would put it up there with "Dances With Wolves" and "Field of Dreams", yes it's that good. I will also say this is Eastwood's finest picture, he ever directed. Yes, better than Million Dollar Baby, High Plains Drifter, Mystic River, and even better than Unforgiven.

I'm probably alone on this one but I don't care. I think the cast here is great and acting is top-notch. I also feel that Costner plays one of the nicest, most likeable villains, ever put on screen. He in my eyes, is actually more of a hero than villain, or a villain with a heart of gold. Yea, it sounds like a oxymoron but it decribes his character perfectly.

I actually writing this review because I'm shocked, no one has voted on it on my friends list. I'm not sure if any of you have even heard of of it? My best friend, who's a huge Eastwood fan has never heard of it, until I told him about it. Any fan of Eastwood or Costner should seek this film out, I find it hard for any fan of either, not liking this film.

I won't go in great detail about the plot because don't wanna spoil anything for anyone, it has similar themes to films you've seen before, I give you that much. I just hope if your reading my review, I can convince you to watch this, put it in your Netflix or rent it, or download it. I'm just tring to spread the word, of a overlooked classic. A Perfect World, is one of the best films of the early 90's.

Also one more thing, some people hate the ending but I'm not one of them. I think the ending adds real depth to the message of the story, even though it's a very sad ending. If A Perfect World was made today, I think it would easily walk away with best picture. It's funny that it didn't do so back when it was made? oh well...
