Review of A Perfect Getaway (2009) by Greg G — 16 Jul 2010
For their honeymoon, newlyweds Cliff and Cydney (Zahn and Jovovich) head to the tropical islands of Hawaii. While journeying through the paradisiacal countryside the couple encounters two shady couples Hemsworth and Shelton (Kale and Cleo) and Olyphant and Sanchez (Nick and Gina). Kale and Cleo are two drifter-looking hitchhikers who initially Cliff and Cydney are hesitant to give a ride to, but then change their minds and offer a lift; while Nick and Gina, are two wild but well-meaning spirits who help guide them through the lush jungles. They continue on their journey even after they discover murder(s) on the loose on the most popular island. Can anybody trust anyone else? And will any of them ever manage to get a decent cell phone signal in this breathtaking dreamland?
Written and directed with clever (perhaps too clever for his own good because it becomes quite obvious early on that things are not what they appear to be) élan by David Twohy. A PERFECT GETAWAY is a movie with picturesque waterfalls and scenic mountainsides, twists, turns, and surprises from start to finish with solid acting from Steve Zahn and Timothy Olyphant.
