Review of A Perfect Getaway (2009) by Steven P — 05 Aug 2010
Steve Zahn, Milla Jovavich, and the delicious Timothy Olyphant star in this thriller about a group of newlyweds who fall prey to murderous forces while vacationing in Hawaii. For me, the movie's main appeal comes not from the tension -that, at times, falls short- but from the breathtaking views of the Hawaiin landscape. It almost makes a person want to risk their life to swim in that clear blue water. Almost.
It's setup is very well executed and paves the way for the ultimate reveal, which while creative and unexpected, meanders along clumsily and and ends up falling apart.
Ultimately this red snapper (that can't be right) of a film is satisfying enough and offers modest thrills but tries to be smarter than it actually is. It's still a solid B movie though.
