Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child (1989) by Jez M — 20 Mar 2009
Being the 5th installment in the series (also sans Craven) you can expect this movie to have its shares of ups and downs. Robert Englund's portrayal of Krueger is great and possibly one of the biggest positives for this movie.
However, most of the kills are dull and the story slowly chugs toward the ending. I would like to praise the series in how well each film follows one another. Nightmare on Elmstreet probably has one of the best linear/progressive storylines throughout the series.
.. but on a sad note, the story is rather bad and you just get a snowball effect of nicely continued horrible story. This movie does provide a little more "origin" detail on Krueger, but again.
.. most of the script only half-achieves. The ending is bad, but is that new for this franchise? Overall, it is decent for film number five and worth a watch if you've seen the others.
