Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child (1989) by Ashley A — 10 May 2011
The feminists must've had a field day with this one. The whole film seems like a homage to a pregnant woman's fears that she is carrying a demon instead of a child. While a couple "Freddy" special effects were cool and unique, the overall feel of this film is sub-par in comparison to the previous films.
The plot seems to be missing a couple key scenes, creating holes in a few "real world" storylines, especially Alice's relationships with her father and Dan's parents. I like that it went into Freddy's past, but more development was needed with Amanda Krueger--why does she have such power over Freddy, and why hadn't any of the previous Elm Street kids figured it out/found her? Overall, I think this film was on the edge of something cool, but stayed on the fence instead of diving off into infamy.
