Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child (1989) by Orlando D — 18 Aug 2011
Once a horror film franchise gets to Part 5, the series starts to show it's age(Friday the 13th, Saw, Chucky, etc.) A Nightmare On Elm Street 5 really creaks on by and is a total bore. This one just tries too hard to push a more comical Freddy, and the scares and characters take a beatseat.
Freddy's reign of terror is not done, he goes after the two remainding survivors from the previous film, but invading the dreams of the unborn child of Alice(Lisa Wilcox) This sounds interesting but the execution is not.
The dreams sequences are okay and the special effects are very good nothing here is a major standout, it's well directed and acting is good as it tries to eject a Rosemary's Baby feeling to it.
What I found the film's strongest point is the character of Alice this time around as she is terrified on the unborn baby and the reapperance of Freddy whom she thought she killed in the last film.
I couldn't wait til this film was done.
