Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child (1989) by Luc L — 02 Sep 2012
It is the most uneven sequel of the "Elm Street" sequels but Director Hopkins (Predator 2, The Ghost and the Darkness, Judgment Night) does have an visual style, it has gothic look, it tries to make Freddy scary again but it doesn't work, since Freddy is still one-liner comedian before he kills you.
The premise is good but the movie does have an dark, depressing look. Special effects are the highlight here, Wilcox and Whit Hertford as Jacob are good. Englund looks bored as Freddy here. The unrated version is the better cut of the movie, which R-Rated cut make the movie looks incoherent towards the death dream sequences.
Hopefully the upcoming Blu-ray box set release will be the Unrated Cut. For Die-Hard fans only.
