Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child (1989) by Sean B — 31 Aug 2013
I really didn't like the 5th movie, just about on par with the second film as the worst in the series. The Dream Child leads off from the forth, but with a lousy excuse to bring Freddy back. Except for two neat dream sequences and some interesting special effects, not very good but creative, this movie was a stinker.
It bordered too much on the campy silly element while exposing a lot of gross out special effects, the film simply lost what the series should be about: the scares and frights. There's none to be seen here, barely so minus the gross out effects which are a cheap shot at stirring up the discomfort in the viewer.
