Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child (1989) by Adam M — 03 May 2014
In this fifth instalment things start of well, again, with a good dream sequence/nightmare but things go a bit hit and miss from there. Lisa Wilcox returns as Alice who has a shower scene straight away so a horror essential has been crossed off the list right there! Initially, Alice thinks she's free from Freddy Kruger but during what Alice thinks is another Nightmare, he comes back but this time it seems reality and the dream world is becoming blurred. In Alice's life anyway, and soon her friends are getting hunted.
The most important thing about The Dream Child in regards to the series is more information about Freddy's background and how he was conceived, an area in the dream realm that Kruger is scared of as it's where his mother roams. That aside, The Dream Child gets confusing at times with it's blurring of reality and the dream realm and, impressive visual effects aside, especially for the time, the nightmare sequences do drag on a bit and despite another energetic performance from Robert Englund as Kruger, Nightmare on Elm Street 5's body count is disappointingly low. Iron Maiden on the soundtrack though...
