Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988) by Anthony G — 01 Nov 2017
Fun entry in the franchise, that while starting to veer away from the horror elements to the more entertaining Freddy, still makes a great viewing. It is notable this is the first of the franchise that gives Robert Englund top billing as Freddy Krueger, who chews the scenery perfectly as usual.
The rest of the cast is okay, with Lisa Wilcox standing out as the new final girl. Behind the camera, director Renny Harlin crafts a fun movie that is more entertaining than scary. Granted, that not to say there are not some horrifying elements (what happens to one victim would make David Cronenberg proud) but it's mostly to show off the visual effects & England's acting.
Overall, while the first "Nightmare" is the scariest, and "3" the most balanced, this is the most fun of the franchise.
