Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988) by Jerry Lee — 22 Jul 2008
This was the last film in the 'Elm Street' series with any scary moments. Robert Englund's Freddy Krueger had become such a cultural icon that it was bound to happen that he be watered down.
The one-liners only appeared before or after a kill in the third film. Here, Freddy entertains both the audience and himself. The cast is probably the second best of the series. Tuesday Knight stands out as an improvement over Patricia Arquette's Kristen.
The special effects are the best of the series, so that makes this one one of the best of the series. Renny Harlin had a wonderful look for the film, and while not as good as the original or third film, easily the best after that.
You could take the original, the third film, and this one and make an awesome trilogy.
