Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) by Andrew D — 10 Jul 2012
This film is nowhere near better than the original Nightmare film, however it is the best Nightmare sequel in the series (not counting Freddy vs. Jason). It begins with a great quote by Edgar Allen Poe to get the audience in the mood for this particular film.
Afterwards, we are introduced to Kristen, who is taken to Westin Hills after her mother believes that she tried to commit suicide. Once there, Kristen meets some other kids who have all "attempted" suicide and have been sharing a particular nightmare, one with a burned man in a red and green sweater and a brown fedora donning a glove with razor sharp knives.
After a battle with Freddy, Kristen realizes that she and the group of kids have a particular dream power (after pulling in original Nightmare survivor, Nancy Thompson, into her dream). The group then decides to try and harness their power so that they can bring down Freddy once and for all.
I highly enjoyed this film. Unlike the original, it really plays with the whole dreamscape idea, including shape-shifting, supernatural powers, and odd landscapes. Not only do I reccommend this film to Freddy fans, I also reccommend to people who like horror in general.
It's a fun film that doesn't run out of steam and has some of the most inventive and best kill scenes in the series.
