Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) by Eric C — 24 Nov 2009
Awesome sequel; Freddy is back and this time he has seen the light, lol. Well went into it anyway, Englund returns and is crazier than ever in his 2nd major career role. He plays the character a bit more deranged, with a bit more black humor mixed with his kills.
The deaths are fantastic and really use the technology of the time to the fullest. Wes Craven returns to the series as Producer and co-writer and this helps to lure Heather Langenkamp and John Saxon back into the fold. I think the film does exceptionally well for it too.
The storyline is good too, helping to close up the series pretty well, well until the 4th film starts it back up. The music is clearly working for the films eerie surroundings and imaginitive dream sequences.
Patricia Arquette comes into the film in one of her first films and she does great. It would have been nice if she returned, but oh well Tuesday Knight was good in part 4. Larry(Lawrence) Fishburne also makes a brief appearance in one of his first films as an orderly. Craig Wasson and Pricilla Pointer round out the cast as the main doctor, who begins to believe the children and the head therapist of the hospital, respectably.
During this time Freddy was becoming more than just a fictional boogyman, but an icon and part 4 would help to push it further on. But due to this success Freddy would do several promos for MTV(when they actually showed Music Videos), some with Dokken and did a music video with them, available on the DVD Box Set release.
4 out of 5 stars.
SOUNDTRACK SONGS I HAVE:
Dokken-Dream Warriors.
Dokken-Into the Fire.
