Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) by Elizabeth H — 03 Sep 2012
Thoughts: I hate unnecessary remakes, but this might be worth a look as a new take on the iconic horror series.
Movie: new design of freddy is intriguing for sure, and I do like the new version. of course I will prefer englund any day of the week over Haley, but you know the deal. and the soundtrack was cool. ONLY TWO THINGS!!!! You'd think with the source material, a slew of great movies that had innovative deaths, great character types and clever moments of humor- they'd get this remake to be pitch perfect, better than anything before!
But NO- everything else in the remake is run of the mill, the usual horror fare. The kills were ALL TAME..no creativity whatsoever. A few really nice looking sequences(at least some visuals were innovative), but overall nothing truly great. And the cast of teenagers were just god-awful, and their parents were even worse. When will horror movies have characters we actually give a fuck about?? when will writers and filmmakers understand that?
Horror victims in the 80s were written like walking PSA announcements about the irresponsibility's of sex and drugs... NOW-- kids are just stupid and are just BORED. and dying..hm whats new..who cares?
I never once felt like these kids had an ounce of self worth or ambition. They were just there, in the empty void of life, ready to die in the dreams.
