Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) by David B — 05 May 2012
It's a shame really, why Hollywood feel the need to reboot classic horror films, there's no need for it. The "new" Freddy didn't have a good introduction and when you see him, it's very dissapointing, they tried to make him more real, more serious and more shocking, which it wasn't.
The wit has been removed, losing it's dark moments of fun and Freddy's sexual puns. The death scenes were very bland and boring, with no original bump-offs that made the old classic brilliant, the death scenes in this seemed more or less the same.
Yawn! Jackie Earle Haley wasn't a very good Freddy, with boring dialog and wasn't very scary. The young cast were ok but were really wooden in most parts, making their death scenes the more convicing to prove the can act.
..which isn't much. The special effects and gore were so-so to near boring. What's good about this film is you do get more of a back story of Freddy and some neat (but quick) flashbacks. The film tried to have a twist but was rubbish.
If you haven't seen the original 1984 classic then you might like this, otherwise don't bother...there's nothing new and a waste of time. Come on Hollywood, come up with some NEW ideas instead of wasting them with reboot/remakes.
..because 9 out of 10 are rubbish.
