Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) by Dalton M — 17 May 2012
There was not one second of this movie that I didn't like, this movie was absolutely amazing!! I will admit when I first found out that they were remaking A NIghtmare on Elm Street, I was very angry at the thought, especially after Michael Bay's Friday the 13th.
I loved the original, mostly because Johnny Depp and also because, who the hell doesn't like A Nightmare on Elm Street?!? This movie stuck true to the original but also had a different spin on some elements in the story.
In this version they are not sure if Fred Krueger is guilty for what they said he did, where as in the original there was no question that he was guilty. LIttle things like that were changed as well as the teenagers backgrounds, but those are just things you have to appreciate because it is "their" own vision of A Nightmare on Elm Street, not the original.
There is nothing wrong with wanting a new director to put his own spin on a remake, just as long as it is done well and this remake really pulled that off. One thing I was nervous about, even though it was more realistic was Freddy's new face.
In this film it is clear that he looks like an actual burn victim, its not exactly what I was hoping for when I first found out about it but it was something that I really grew to appreciate. The acting was really amazing, you felt for everyone of the teenagers.
My favorite actor in this was obviously Kyle Gallner, who'm I have mentioned is a very underated actor, who played the kind of Johnny Depp character. I wasn't excited for anyone to replace Johnny, because lets face it.
..you can't. But I knew that if ANYONE had ANY chance at doing it as a teen, it would be Kyle Gallner. Whenever he was in a scene you could really feel his anger, sadness, scaredness and especially tiredness.
Rooney Mara did nothing but amazing in this film, she is such an amazing and beautiful actress and she really brought that character of Nancy to life, in her own way and that was something that really impressed me.
I have to say, I do like Kellan Lutz as an actor but I felt that he didn't give this his best. And of coarse, Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, he was completely different from Robert's Freddy.
HIs look as well as his voice were something that they changed and they were both something that worried me because he looks like an actual burnt person and sounds a little like Christian Bale's Batman.
The voice was something that I felt they could have left not Batman like but as I have said, it's their vision...nothing we can do about that. At least he had the claw, the hat and the green and red sweater.
..if they didn't have those then we'd really be up shit's creek. I felt that the music in this was amazing all the way through, it made me feel different ways all the time, mostly scared and surprisingly sad.
All in all a fantastic film, it has to be seen and it has to recieve the amazing reviews it deserves. 5/5.
