Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) by Jim H — 04 Sep 2012
Considering that I'm an avid fan of the original AND the fact that I saw that film in the theaters (yes I'm old) I found it a liitle tough to see this reboot with a fresh perspective. To my surprise, many of the "classic" scenes were kept and the advances in visual fx technology really made this movie shine.
The new Kruger was simply awesome- the voice, acting and visuals were top-notch. Haley comes dangerously close to besting Englund and certainly earns his place as the future face of the Nightmare franchise.
I really wanted to give this more stars but I really couldn't get over the feeling of re-tracing a familiar path; one that had been well carved-out and somewhat beaten. My only real gripe with the reboot is that it follows the new standard trend of cramming the cast full with neo-Twilight-esque "beautiful people", heck even the mom's in this movie are hot! With that said, for the would-be new fans I would highly recommend this re-envisioning as the ultimate good-time-scary-movie-date flick.
