Why can't horror remakes be done right? I mean, the technology is getting better, people are more talented at writing scripts nowadays and making a movie isn't such a chore that it once was so long ago.

This remake does a few things right, but for everything that is done right, three things go wrong in turn. Most complaints go to Jackie as Freddy. Strangely, his performance is easily the most enjoyable part of the movie.

But they made him look like he tried to get skin graphs. Which doesn't make sense. Nancy is played by Rooney Mara. I saw Mara give a great performance in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. And she is easily the dullest female heroine I've seen in years.

The original Nancy was scared but fought back with bravery, but all this one does is burn her wrist with a car lighter. What?? Boring. The pedophile side story was good, but the dream sequences didn't feel like dreams but more like flashbacks.

Freddy has a few cool lines, but is buried underneath these boring kid characters that you feel no connection with like you did in the original. Sure it shows us and spoon feeds you these characters, but ultimately fails to convince you to care when they die.

But it's not all wasted. Some pleasure can milked from this movie if you try, but ultimately it's just plain old forgettable.
