Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) by Dann M — 19 Nov 2012
"One, Two, Freddy's coming for you." A Nightmare on Elm Street is rebooted for a new generation with a frightening and disturbing new vision. In this new version, former child molester Freddy Krueger returns to stalk his former victims in their dreams and kills them off one-by-one.
An interesting cast has been assembled for this film, including Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Katie Cassidy, and Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger; and surprisingly they all give pretty strong performances.
This is a much darker and creepier interpretation of the Krueger story, which makes him a lot scarier, but also less fun. Additionally, Freddy's new look, while more realistic, doesn't have any personality or distinctiveness to it.
This gritty take undercuts some of the comedy, but A Nightmare on Elm Street still delivers an entertaining and thrilling tale of horror.
