Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) by Ben D — 20 Jan 2013
An ok watch. The film is thin on storyline and for a re imagining it lacks imagination. Earle harly does well but is let down by writters/director as they get freddy all wrong and by trying to make him more evil, darker it has the opposite affect.
The film lacks atmosphere unlike wes cravens original, that's because modern horror movies concentrate on gore and big kill scenes instead of phycologicaly building a movie slowly and drawing the viewer in.
This version just dives straight in and Haley can't save the movie as the freddy he's asked to portray just doesn't work, you miss his wit, timing, the way he loves toying with his victims, this movie just doesn't do this until towards the end with nancy, and even then it's too late as there isn't enough body to the movie your watching.
A ok watch but it could of been so much more, ultimatly it just makes you want to go see the original again.
