Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) by Eytan D — 22 May 2013
Is it anything new? Not entirely. In fact, a lot of Samuel Bayer's "Elm Street" remake borrows lines and scenes from previous films. But the movie is better than it has a right to be. It's stylish, dream-like, and surprisingly well-acted.
Rooney Mara's Nancy is good, but not up to par with Heather Langenkamp. And of course, Robert Englund is THE only person who truly gets Freddy Krueger. He played him for 20 years. But one cannot deny that Jackie Earle Haley is an inspired and wise choice to play Freddy in 2010.
Haley is considerably creepy in the role, putting more emphasis on Freddy's twisted relationship with children. The concept of micronaps makes the nightmares scarier as you never truly know when someone is asleep.
Overall, this trip down Elm Street is a trip worth taking at least once, despite its forgettable results.
