Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) by Hollis M — 31 Oct 2013
A Nightmare on Elm Street starts off with Katie Cassidy as the lead, she is fantastic and very convincing as she is tortured by Krueger in her sleep. Thomas Dekker is great too as he tries to fight against his nightmare, the real shame is that once these two leads die in come Rooney Mara and Kyle Gallner, who literally sap out all the energy and excitement from the film.
These two are tired in the film, they take pills to energise themselves, this effect is passed onto the viewer. Aside from these two diabolically boring cast members, the film features a spectacular visual style, from gritty murders, to blood red settings and twisted visions of nightmares.
It's also extremely jumpy and the story is very good, at one point you feel sorry for Freddie Krueger, but then that goes away as he turns to his dark side. It's a good remake but the original is better and fun, if only Cassidy and Dekker had been spared this film could've benefitted from these two staying to take the leads.
