Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) by Matthew G — 17 Jan 2015
"You really shouldn't fall asleep in class".
Considering the amount of hate this movie got, I expected something completely awful, but I actually didn't mind this movie. Jackie Earle Haley clearly wasn't as good as Robert Englund, who is still the best freddy, but I really liked him. I liked how they went for the more serious freddy like they did in nightmare 1 and new nightmare, his voice is just awesome. So I thought Haley was great in here. The rest of the acting is either poor or just passable. Its writing isn't great but it wasn't awful as well. This movie had a lot of nightmares, and while they're cool to look at they were nearly the same as the original, some even look shot for shot like the remake of psycho (which I won't watch). It's a cool movie to look at with its atmosphere but I didn't like the amount of back story they give to freddy, sure there were some interesting things they showed but they showed to much of him and I question why the movie tried to make us care for him. So overall, I didn't hate this movie, since I rather enjoyed it but it will never top the original, I'll give it a 6/10.
