Writer and Director Wes Craven (Scream Series, The Hills Have Eyes, Red Eye) came up with the most original premise for an horror movie back in the 1980's. It is one of Craven's best movies. Still, it is pretty scary for all these years, thanks to a smart script and director.
But probably most memorably, Robert Englund's supporting performance as Freddy Krueger, one of the smartest villians in movie history. Langenkamp is good as Nancy and Deep in his first movie, he gets the most memorable death scene (A tribute to Stanley Kubrick's The Shining).
The only weak spot is Blakely as Nancy's mother. Followed by six sequels, t.v.show, a spin-off and a remake!
