Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) by Eytan D — 28 Dec 2012
Dream-like, terrifying, gory, memorable. Wes Craven's "A Nightmare on Elm Street" revived the 80's slasher film in an original, twisted way. What was lost in the sequels is perfectly retained in the original.
As iconically played by Robert Englund, Freddy Krueger is less of a funhouse villain and more of the horrific boogeyman that freaks out the child in you every time you watch the movie. "Elm Street" is also noticeable as Johnny Depp's first movie; his death will stick with you just as much as Tina's death.
Heather Langenkamp makes Nancy a likeable and remarkably strong heroine who is not afraid to take Freddy down on her own. Still scary? Hell yes. Nightmares are guaranteed.
