Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) by Adrian Z — 08 Jan 2013
Entertaining horror / fantasy about dead child killer preying on a group of teens through their dreams leads to some memorable chills. The main flaw is the annoyingly dumb, illogical behaviour coming from the adults in this film, made worse by their awful acting, but thankfully leads Langenkamp and Depp (in his film debut) are very likable.
Moreover, Englund is very effective as killer Freddy Krueger, a uniquely sinister yet playful character that went on to become a pop icon. Imaginative special effects and stylish cinematography make it a visual treat.
Director Wes Craven at his creative peak.
