Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) by Jean-Antoine B — 11 May 2014
Halloween will always be the original slasher movie but this will be the one that takes the genre and runs with it and holy crap does it run far. Before it was just a silent killer running around and killing you at your house or a camp or wherever but here its in your dreams where your least expecting it with a killer who talks.
I freaking love this movie and I mean a lot. I won't forget my first time watching this movie and being like everyone's afraid of this? I thought it was just awesome and it's my favorite horror/slasher movie and its my all time favorite movie up there with the first three Die Hard's and Full Metal Jacket.
What I will say though the more I watched it I realized its not about being a scary movie itself its the concept of it so its a mental kind of movie in a good way. Wes Craven outdid himself with this film and every time I watch it I love it more and more.
It really lives to the hype it has because it is just an awesome experience. I love the dream sequences and how their shot. They seem realistic and Freddy had some cool scenes and cool kills, even though you didn't see him do them you saw enough to know you didn't want to see them happening.
The acting is terrific, the gore level is crazy and oh it has Johnny Depp's best role in a movie!! And let's talk about the star. Freddy. Freddy Krueger. A make-up covered Robert Enguland played the role and played him at his best.
He didn't say as much as he did in the sequels he didn't say as much but when he said something it was legendary. Freddy Krueger will always be a true titan of terror because of this film. It's just great if you haven't seen it you need to check it out and not just horror fans everyone should.
