Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) by Ben D — 23 Oct 2014
I first saw this, the 18+ rated uncut version, when I was 13 and it was terrifying - I'm surprised that in a couple of decades I have only had one nightmare anything to do with Freddy. And I only had trouble sleeping for one night after first seeing this film.
I guess I've just seen so much ever since....But nonetheless this is a brilliant movie; the plot/setting, the directing and the atrmosphere are perfect for horror. I consider this to be a true classic that at least for me has not lost any of its brilliancy throughout the years. It can also still be very scary when you sit down and really get into it even though you know everything that's going to happen.
Absolutely a must-see movie for any horror fan, and for Halloween movie night!
If you're going to watch a NOES film, don't waste time on the half-assed, horribly stripped remake from 2010 or the very different toned sequels...Treat yourself with this gem of a movie instead. :) Another one very much worth watching is Wes Craven's New Nightmare from 19933. Lines up wonderfully with this original.
