Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) by James R — 27 Jun 2017
A horror film that saved the slasher film genre for a few more years. Unlike Friday the 13th this film does a better job with establishing characters to care about and a plot that's actually pretty well done.
The movie follows a group of high schoolers that are being terrorized in their dreams by a severely burnt man named Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund). Our final girl we follow throughout the film is Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp).
Nancy begins to see Freddy in her dreams, but unlike most characters she actually tries to solve the problem! Nancy tries several ways by going into her dreams and figuring out why Freddy is haunting them all and killing people in their dreams! The film also stars Johnny Depp as Nancy's boyfriend Glen who isn't half bad.
He's supportive! The film is a bit dated now a days. It's been 33 years since it came out and while much of the effects still work some of it looks a bit cheesy. The scares are real though and I have to applaud Englund for becoming the character of Freddy so damn well.
He looks super creepy and is always popping up. Overall, solid slasher film and one that I recommend every horror fan to give a look at!
