Review of A Night to Remember (1958) by Sam M — 08 Jan 2008
As good as Jim Cameron's 1997 epic is (as a fictional story), this 1958 masterpiece by Roy Ward Baker tells the minute-by-minute account of the sinking of the Titanic. Based on the nonfiction book of the same title by the late Walter Lord, this movie is based on interviews with survivors as well as the results of the inquries that followed the disaster in both the U.
S. and U.K. It focuses largely on 2nd officer C.H. Lightoller (Kenneth More), but other principals are recognizable such as the Strauses, Bruce Ismay, Captain E.J. Smith, the wireless operators and 'the unsinkable' Molly Brown.
An absolute must see for fans of Cameron's fictional epic!
