Review of A Night at the Opera (1935) by Matthew H — 24 Mar 2014
The Marx Brothers make their first film at MGM, leaving Paramount and losing Zeppo...who decided to leave the act around the same time. This film features the most plot focused Marx effort up to this point, as most of their films left the plot secondary to the zaniness and comic madness of the four brothers.
This time around this are plenty of great bits, but the focus on the overall plot is heavier. This is often regarded as one of their best efforts, up there with the previous film "Duck Soup".
..I think I enjoy "Duck Soup", "Animal Crackers" and "Monkey Business" more than I enjoyed this...but it is pretty funny in itself.
