Review of A New Kind of Love (1963) by Private U — 30 Aug 2007
What? One of the strangest movies I have seen in a long time. An attempt at a makeover genre/romantic comedy/error in identity movie that falls short of the mark. The ending is supposed to be funny and uplifting, but read in another light is creepy and threatening.
The gender double standard, subtly present in so many rom-coms, is almost unbearable by the end. The only thing that saves this movie from no stars is how beautiful Paul Newman is - however, he shines much more brightly in his other films.
Woodward is always charming, but again, better in her other films.
