A smart and savvy slow-burn drama like Hollywood used to make back in the day. Philip Seymour Hoffman delivers a fantastic final lead performance and is the main reason this film captivated me as opposed to the dry and dull Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Director Corbijn brings his incredible eye for production design, cinematography and editing to yet another great film, crafting something even better than The American with this one. The entire cast gives strong performances and helps bring this complex, interwoven riddle to life.

The build-up to the ending is not everything I hoped it would be. But maybe on a second viewing it will sink in more. None the less, A Most Wanted Man is one of the best films of 2014 so far and a great way to say goodbye to Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I'll never get over the loss of his talent and taste for filmmaking. Thankfully we have a vast filmography to keep his spirit alive with us.
