Review of A Most Wanted Man (2014) by Vguru R — 01 Sep 2014
Similar to the tragic death of Robin Williams, earlier this year another incredible actor had passed away: Philip Seymour Hoffman. Luckily he still has a few films coming out, one of which is A MOST WANTED MAN, the film that I had seen today after it was in limited release.
It is a crime thriller based on a novel written by John le Carre, the same author of the books Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Constant Gardener which were adapted into successful films. Everyone should go see this movie and experience it for themselves.
Particularly for Philip Seymour Hoffman who gives a phenomenal performance, and I'm not just saying that to respect his death, it was actually amazing. Also in the film are Willem Dafoe, Robin Wright, Rachel McAdams, and Daniel Bruhl, all of whom are terrific.
Especially Robin Wright, who is involved with the great twist at the end of the film that ultimately made her a standout character alongside Hoffman. But don't just go see the movie for the actors, A Most Wanted Man is a riveting, very well directed thriller with a fantastic script, though there were some points where I felt the pacing was off.
It was nice to end the summer off with a movie that wasn't constant action and explosions thrown at my face. They're good things only when they're necessary and make sense... Fuck Transformers 4.
You should really check A Most Wanted Man out before it's pulled from theaters, because it's absolutely worth it, and not just for the astounding Philip Seymour Hoffman, he's just one of the many positives of the film - 8.
9/10.
