This is beautifully shot, deliberately paced and quite gripping. It's not a "Tinker Tailor..." but it's still a great LeCarré adaptation. Philip Seymour Hoffman gives a compelling, weary last performance.
The film's overwhelming pessimism seems a fitting tribute.
