Review of A Most Wanted Man (2014) by Meg J — 25 Jan 2015
This film was not as I expected it to be. I am a Hoffman fan, as well as Dafoe, but this movie was slow-moving, anti-climactic, and the plot wasn't very enticing. I understand that it was based on an immigrant who was the interest of two security agencies, but shouldn't that have given an opportunity for an exciting, climactic and/or suspenseful film?
I expected more from this film, and the handfuls of scenes of Hoffman smoking and drinking was unnecessary, as his character's personality and dismay was portrayed just fine without having to have fifteen scenes of that - one or two would be fine.
I felt there was a lack of depth to this film, and the characters, the accents used were not believable, and the bank processes with Dafoe's scene and McAdams were hardly believable, the security procedures seemed non-existent, and to top it off, you never really got to "feel" for any of the characters - you were never really truly rooting for anyone, the emotion just wasn't there.
I am a lover of many films, but I don't recommend this one.
