Review of A Most Wanted Man (2014) by Mike P — 06 Mar 2015
This is a fairly boring item. Da Foe was implausible, as he often risks being. Here, the production and direction ramp up his idiosyncrasies to verge on the comical. Wright seemed insubstantial, self-conscious and uncomfortable.
Perhaps she was directed to play the iron fist in the velvet glove - totally wrong. Hoffman. Hoffman had the right emotional mix, but his accent was variable, and his character stereotyped - again a failing of direction and production.
He seemed to wear the same thing more or less throughout - some kind of Columbo effect, with drooping cigarette. There is one, other, first-rate acting performance in the film, with real depth. Watch for it.
